Eagles Nest News

WM Irvin Elementary

Welcome Back, Eagles!

We hope all of our Eagles had a restful and enjoyable Spring Break! The week before break was a busy and exciting one at Irvin. Our students enjoyed their PBIS Celebration, our 4th and 5th graders showcased their talents during the Talent Show, and we celebrated students who earned positive referrals. It was a wonderful week of recognizing and celebrating our Eagles!

This week, our 3rd–5th grade students will begin their 3rd Quarter Benchmark Assessments. The specific testing dates are listed below. Testing will begin promptly at 8:30 AM on testing days. Parents, please help ensure your child arrives on time so they can test in their most comfortable environment.
Students who miss a testing day will have the opportunity to make up their assessments through March 27th.

We also have some exciting events coming up:
🔬 Lights, STEM, Action Night – March 26
🛼 PTO Skate Night – March 31

Additionally, the CHA Mobile Dental Clinic will be on campus through March 19th. If you signed your child up for services, they will be seen this week. After their visit, your child will receive a letter from CHA Dental to bring home that outlines any treatment provided and any recommended follow-up.
We’re looking forward to another great week of learning and fun at Irvin!

Arts & Letters!!

In Module 3 of Arts & Letters, students in grades 2–5 are building strong reading, writing, and thinking skills by exploring meaningful texts and sharing their ideas about what they read.
Throughout the module, students:
  • Read engaging stories and informational texts
  • Talk about characters, ideas, and important details
  • Practice using evidence from the text to explain their thinking
  • Learn new vocabulary and strengthen reading comprehension
Across the three units, students grow more confident in:
  • Understanding grade-level texts
  • Sharing ideas during class discussions
  • Writing clear responses about what they read
By the end of Module 3, students are better prepared to think critically, express their ideas clearly, and connect what they read to the world around them. These skills help set the foundation for future learning across all subjects.

To keep the learning going beyond the classroom, here are some grade-level tips for families to support and extend learning at home:

Positivity Project (P2) - Identifying and appreciating the good in others

Dear Families,

This week, our school community will focus on the Other People Mindset of Identifying and appreciating the good in others. It’s important to deliberately work to identify and appreciate others’ character strengths. It’s not always easy to notice people’s strengths, but it’s something we should all practice.

Often, it’s easier to blame others or focus on their mistakes, which can lead to negative feelings like jealousy or frustration. This negativity can create problems, not just for us but also for our relationships with others.

When we make an effort to see the good in people, we start to see the world in a more positive way. If we always focus on the bad, it feels like we’re surrounded by negativity, which makes us defensive and stressed. This doesn’t mean we should ignore reality or pretend everything is perfect, but we should try to understand others and recognize their good intentions. When we see the good in others, they are more likely to see the good in us.

To practice and encourage the Other People Mindset at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.

Thank you for your support!

Counselors Corner

Happy National Counselors Week

💙Our Counselors Say...💙

Dear Irvin Families,

As school counselors we want to take a moment to share how we support students through age-appropriate learning and to highlight an exciting event coming up soon.

Age-Appropriate Digital Safety
We often talk with students about making safe and responsible choices online. Families play a key role in helping children navigate technology in age-appropriate ways. We encourage parents and caregivers to regularly monitor apps, games, and social media use, set clear screen-time limits, and have ongoing conversations about online behavior, privacy, and digital kindness. What children see and experience online can impact their emotional well-being, peer relationships, and learning. Modeling healthy technology habits and keeping communication open can help students build strong digital citizenship skills.
