Dr. Richard Wells

Dr. Wells began his college career at UNC Charlotte as an electrical engineering major.  However, he knew his calling was in the field of education.  After three years, Dr. Wells changed his major to elementary education and went on to teach for six years in a large urban school district before going back to UNC Charlotte to pursue his Master’s degree in School Administration as a NC Principal Fellow.  After spending three years as a principal intern and assistant principal of instruction at the middle school level, Dr. Wells was delighted to return to the elementary level to serve the students and families at Winecoff Elementary School.  After four years at Winecoff, Dr. Wells accepted his first principalship at Beverly Hills STEM Elementary School.  He served as the principal there for five years before transferring to W.M. Irvin Elementary School. Dr. Wells is excited to lead a school that offers the Spanish Dual Language Program and is now embarking on a new journey as a STEM school.  Dr. Wells is married to Jana.  The two met during their student teaching experiences, and together they have three boys, Richardson, Jennings, and Rhodes, and a daughter, Raleigh.
