💙💛 February Fun & Eagle Pride! 💙💛

We blinked and it’s already February! Even with a shorter week, our Eagles continued to shine and earn positive referrals. Way to go, Eagles—keep SOARing!

Happy Black History Month! This month, we celebrate the achievements, contributions, and voices of Black leaders—past and present—who have shaped our history and continue to inspire our students. We look forward to meaningful learning and celebration throughout the month.

We have lots of fun and meaningful events coming up, including the Someone Special Dance, Kindness Week, Olympics STEM Week, and our Black History Month Spirit Week and Assembly. Be sure to check the dates listed below so your family doesn’t miss out!

🚌 Bus Reminders
From Ms. Stover and Ms. Fletcher

Parents of bus riders, please have your child at their assigned bus stop at least 10 minutes before their scheduled pick-up time. This helps keep routes running smoothly for both regular and substitute drivers. Students must be picked up at their assigned stop only, as drivers are unable to make changes to bus stops.
Please help us remind students of our Bus “Big 3”:
Be Safe
⭐ Be Respectful
⭐ Be Responsible

Talking with your child about what these expectations look and sound like helps everyone have a safe and happy bus ride.

🍩 Raising Dough for Carowinds! 🎢

Our 5th graders need your help getting to Carowinds for their end-of-year field trip! The 5th grade team is hosting a Krispy Kreme February fundraiser to help ensure every student can attend this exciting trip.
Want to treat yourself (or your team 😉) and support a sweet cause? Grab a box—or three! Every dozen helps our students get one step closer to an unforgettable experience.

Thank you for supporting our 5th graders and helping make this trip possible! 🍩💙💛

Curriculum

Arts & Letters Logo

Arts & Letters!!

In Module 3 of Arts & Letters, students in grades 2–5 are building strong reading, writing, and thinking skills by exploring meaningful texts and sharing their ideas about what they read.
Throughout the module, students:
  • Read engaging stories and informational texts
  • Talk about characters, ideas, and important details
  • Practice using evidence from the text to explain their thinking
  • Learn new vocabulary and strengthen reading comprehension
Across the three units, students grow more confident in:
  • Understanding grade-level texts
  • Sharing ideas during class discussions
  • Writing clear responses about what they read
By the end of Module 3, students are better prepared to think critically, express their ideas clearly, and connect what they read to the world around them. These skills help set the foundation for future learning across all subjects.

To keep the learning going beyond the classroom, here are some grade-level tips for families to support and extend learning at home:

STEM Can Project

STEM News:

We are excited to host a career day for our fourth and fifth grade students this year! We would love for parent volunteers to come in and talk to our students about your profession, along with the education and/or training you received. We will have volunteers set up booth style around the cafeteria. Feel free to bring school appropriate props to help explain your career. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out this form and someone from the school will contact you with more details! Career day will take place March 4th, from 8:30-10:30am.

We are still collecting canned goods, paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls outside the Robotics Lab! Please donate, if you can!

STEM Builds the Future: 1 Can at a Time
We are excited to partner with 1Can and the Cabarrus County Education Foundation (CCEF) for an upcoming Canned Food Art Challenge. Families are invited to donate canned goods that students will use to create collaborative art designs. Once the challenge is complete, all donated cans will be given to 1Can, who will distribute them to local food banks and people in need. This is a meaningful way for students to combine creativity, teamwork, and service while supporting families in our community. Thank you for helping us make a positive impact!

Positivity Project (P2) - Love

Dear Families,

This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Love. Love means you value close relationships with others and being close to people.

Love is shown through our thoughts, feelings, and actions toward those we care about. When we love someone, we comfort them, make them feel safe, support them during tough times, and often put their needs before our own. When someone loves us, we feel safe and secure and can be ourselves around them. We miss them when they are not around.

Love is important for our community and society. We all depend on each other for happiness and well-being. Love creates positive feelings, helping to reduce loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Without love, we can't form strong bonds with our families, friends, or communities. A world without love would be a lonely and unsafe place.

To practice and encourage the character strength of love at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.

Thank you for your support!

Counselors Corner

Happy National Counselors Week

💙Our Counselors Say...💙

Dear Irvin Families,

As school counselors we want to take a moment to share how we support students through age-appropriate learning and to highlight an exciting event coming up soon.

Age-Appropriate Digital Safety
We often talk with students about making safe and responsible choices online. Families play a key role in helping children navigate technology in age-appropriate ways. We encourage parents and caregivers to regularly monitor apps, games, and social media use, set clear screen-time limits, and have ongoing conversations about online behavior, privacy, and digital kindness. What children see and experience online can impact their emotional well-being, peer relationships, and learning. Modeling healthy technology habits and keeping communication open can help students build strong digital citizenship skills.

Career Day – Coming This March!

We are excited to host Career Day on March 4th, where students will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of careers from community members and families. This event helps students connect school learning to real-world opportunities and encourages curiosity about future goals.

We would love for parent volunteers to come in and talk to our students about your profession, along with the education and/or training you received. We will have volunteers set up booth style around the cafeteria. Feel free to bring school appropriate props to help explain your career. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the attached form and someone from the school will contact you with more details! Career day will take place March 4th, from 8:30 - 10:30am.
