🦅 🌟 Irvin Eagles: Back, Focused, Ready! 💙💛

It was another busy week at Irvin, but we still made time to celebrate some great moments! Our Spelling Bee representative proudly competed in the district Spelling Bee and represented W.M. Irvin exceptionally well. We’re so proud! 🐝📚

We also celebrated a student who earned a positive referral—we love seeing our Eagles lead by example and make positive choices throughout the school.

This will be a short week, with no school tomorrow as we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Please note that Friday is an Early Release Day, with dismissal beginning at 12:00 PM. Be sure to communicate any transportation changes early that day.

Looking ahead, we’re excited for upcoming PTO events, including Skate Night and the Someone Special Dance! Please check the PTO section and attached flyers for more details.

Reminders this month:
⭐ No school on January 19th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Early Dismissal on January 23rd — dismissal begins at 12:00 PM

💉 A Word from Our School Nurses: Staying Healthy This Cold & Flu Season
As we head into cold and flu season, there are a few simple steps families can take to help keep our Eagles healthy:
  • Encourage students to cover their coughs and sneeze into a tissue
  • Remind students to wash their hands frequently
  • Keep children home when they are sick to prevent spreading illness

For your convenience, the guidelines for keeping a sick child home are linked.

Thank you for helping us keep our school community healthy and strong!

We’re excited to keep learning and growing together! Go Eagles! 🦅✨

Arts & Letters!!

In Module 3 of Arts & Letters, students in grades 2–5 are building strong reading, writing, and thinking skills by exploring meaningful texts and sharing their ideas about what they read.
Throughout the module, students:
  • Read engaging stories and informational texts
  • Talk about characters, ideas, and important details
  • Practice using evidence from the text to explain their thinking
  • Learn new vocabulary and strengthen reading comprehension
Across the three units, students grow more confident in:
  • Understanding grade-level texts
  • Sharing ideas during class discussions
  • Writing clear responses about what they read
By the end of Module 3, students are better prepared to think critically, express their ideas clearly, and connect what they read to the world around them. These skills help set the foundation for future learning across all subjects.

To keep the learning going beyond the classroom, here are some grade-level tips for families to support and extend learning at home:

STEM Can Project

STEM News:

We are collecting paper towel and clean toilet paper rolls for an upcoming STEM-focused week! A collection bin will be placed outside the Robotics Classroom!

STEM Builds the Future: 1 Can at a Time
We are excited to partner with 1Can and the Cabarrus County Education Foundation (CCEF) for an upcoming Canned Food Art Challenge. Families are invited to donate canned goods that students will use to create collaborative art designs. Once the challenge is complete, all donated cans will be given to 1Can, who will distribute them to local food banks and people in need. This is a meaningful way for students to combine creativity, teamwork, and service while supporting families in our community. Thank you for helping us make a positive impact!

Positivity Project (P2) - Perseverance

Dear Families,

This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Perseverance. Perseverance means completing what you start despite obstacles. It means never giving up.

People who show perseverance keep trying, even when they face challenges. They stay focused on their goals and work hard, even when things don't go as planned. Those who persevere often achieve great things because they don't quit. They also learn a lot and get better at what they do.

Perseverance can also inspire others. When one person in a group keeps going despite setbacks, it can motivate the whole team to keep trying and reach their goals.

To practice and encourage the character strength of perseverance at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.

Thank you for your support!
