Parent Participation vs. Volunteering

Parent Participation: Parents may participate in school activities that are open to all parents without a background check. Please contact your child’s teacher or school administration for available opportunities.

  2. Complete the volunteer background check.
  3. Review the CCS Volunteer Code of Conduct.

📚 LEARNING IS TAKING FLIGHT!

Our Second Year of Arts & Letters

We are excited to begin our second year of Arts & Letters, and this year we are ready to dig even deeper! 📖🦅

As our teachers and students continue growing with the curriculum, we will focus on making stronger connections between what we read, what we learn, and the world around us. A major focus will be building rich vocabulary and helping students truly KNOW the content they are learning—not just complete a lesson, but understand it, talk about it, and connect it to what they already know.

🔎 WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOUR CHILD IS LEARNING?

We want families to be connected to the learning happening in the classroom!
To learn more about the lessons and content your child will be working on, please log in to your child's teacher's Canvas page. This is a great way to stay informed about what your child is learning and find opportunities to continue conversations at home.
Mr. Dennis Testerman, and Ms. Charlton

STEM @ W.M Irvin

We are excited to highlight Mr. Dennis Testerman, a wonderful community partner who works alongside our W. M. Irvin Garden Team! Mr. Dennis is a certified Master Gardener, Environmental Educator, and therapeutic horticulturist, who has extensive experience in agriculture and conservation in Nigeria, Pakistan and the States. He shares his knowledge and love of agriculture, conservation, and the outdoors with our students as they learn and grow in our school garden. This year, he will also be joined by his service dog! We are so thankful for the time and enthusiasm Mr. Dennis brings to our students and are excited to welcome him back to the building!

Meet our Counselors

Meet Our School Counselors!

We are excited to support the students and families of W.M. Irvin Elementary this school year! Ms. Delgado will serve as the school counselor for Kindergarten–2nd Grade, and Mrs. Carey will serve as the school counselor for 3rd–5th Grade. Together, we provide ASCA-aligned school counseling services through classroom guidance lessons, brief solution-focused individual counseling, small-group counseling, student goal-setting and skill development, and support with students’ academic, social/emotional, and career development. We also serve as 504 Coordinators, helping ensure eligible students receive the appropriate accommodations and supports needed to access and succeed in their education. Our goal is to help every Irvin Eagle feel safe, supported, connected, and ready to learn! 🦅💙 Attached is a form if you would like any of the mentioned services! https://forms.gle/352BD7A72LccPxqZ8

Positivity Project (P2) - Open-Mindedness

Dear Families,
Next week, our school will focus on the character strength of Open-Mindedness. This means being willing to consider new ideas and try new things. It involves looking at situations from all sides and not jumping to conclusions.
Open-mindedness is about seeking out and fairly weighing evidence, even if it goes against our own opinions or goals. Open-minded people listen to different viewpoints, including those that are less popular. They are often good listeners and provide balanced advice, which makes them great friends and confidants. This strength helps individuals form meaningful and lasting relationships.
To practice and encourage the character strength of open-mindedness at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.

Thank you for your support!
