Our first full week with all of our Irvin Eagles was a busy one—and what a great week it was! From special visitors to celebrating positive choices, our Eagles are already showing us what it means to SOAR!
🏫 A Week Full of Excitement!
We were thrilled to welcome Governor Josh Stein to W.M. Irvin Elementary! Governor Stein visited our school to deliver school supplies and spent time with Ms. Gillcrist’s class, our very own CCS District Teacher of the Year. We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase the amazing things happening at Irvin!
Our Eagles also enjoyed our first Prize Cart of the year! 🎉 We loved celebrating students who are making positive choices and demonstrating our schoolwide expectations.

While the excitement continues, our classrooms are also hard at work building the foundation for a successful school year. Teachers are continuing to teach and reinforce expectations, establish routines, and build meaningful relationships with students.

Monday, August 24th is a big day for our youngest Eagles—it’s Kindergarten Independence Day! 🎉
Our kindergarteners will take an exciting step toward independence by walking to their classrooms on their own. Don’t worry, Eagles—we’ve got them covered! 💙💛 Plenty of Irvin staff members will be stationed throughout the hallways to guide, encourage, and make sure every kindergartener arrives safely at their classroom.
We know this is a big milestone for our little learners, and we are so proud of them!

We also celebrated our very first Positive Referrals of the school year! ⭐ These referrals recognize students who are going above and beyond to demonstrate positive behaviors and make a difference in our school community. |
Parent Participation vs. Volunteering
Parent Participation: Parents may participate in school activities that are open to all parents without a background check. Please contact your child’s teacher or school administration for available opportunities.
Volunteering: Parents, family members, and community members serving as school volunteers must complete a background check. This includes roles such as field trip chaperones, classroom volunteers, and enrichment support.
To volunteer with Cabarrus County Schools:
- Obtain the required PIN by calling the the school directly.
- Complete the volunteer background check.
- Review the CCS Volunteer Code of Conduct.

Our Annual Fun Run Fundraiser is right around the corner. PTO is reaching out to businesses for sponsorship, please see the flyer for more information. Sponsorship funds cover the cost of Irvin Spirit Shirts and event snacks and drinks for 800 students, teachers and volunteers. Funds will also purchase incentive prizes for students and teachers based on their efforts and participation in this fundraiser. Contact us with any questions you may have.

Our Second Year of Arts & Letters
We are excited to begin our second year of Arts & Letters, and this year we are ready to dig even deeper! 📖🦅
As our teachers and students continue growing with the curriculum, we will focus on making stronger connections between what we read, what we learn, and the world around us. A major focus will be building rich vocabulary and helping students truly KNOW the content they are learning—not just complete a lesson, but understand it, talk about it, and connect it to what they already know.

As we get our school year underway, we will also begin our Beginning-of-Year (BOY) assessments.
These assessments help us establish a baseline for where each student is as they return from summer. This information gives our teachers valuable insight into what students already know and what they are ready to learn next.

Dear Families,
This week, our school is focusing on the character strength of Curiosity. Curiosity means being interested in learning new things and asking questions to discover more about the world around us.
When we are curious, we want to know more and understand better. Curiosity helps us stay interested in stories, try new activities, and even explore new places. Everyone experiences curiosity in different ways, whether it's through asking questions, thinking deeply, or feeling excited about new ideas.
Being curious also takes courage. It means asking questions when we don’t know the answers and being willing to try new things, even if we might not succeed right away. But it’s through this curiosity and exploration that we learn and grow.
To practice and encourage curiosity at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. We are excited to support the students and families of W.M. Irvin Elementary this school year! Ms. Delgado will serve as the school counselor for Kindergarten–2nd Grade, and Mrs. Carey will serve as the school counselor for 3rd–5th Grade. Together, we provide ASCA-aligned school counseling services through classroom guidance lessons, brief solution-focused individual counseling, small-group counseling, student goal-setting and skill development, and support with students’ academic, social/emotional, and career development. We also serve as 504 Coordinators, helping ensure eligible students receive the appropriate accommodations and supports needed to access and succeed in their education.
