📚STEM on the Edge: Celebrating Multilingual Learners in STEM!!

Last Wednesday, CCS STEM hosted its fourth annual STEM on the Edge pipeline event! Ten students from each of our STEM schools were invited to participate in this special event celebrating our Multilingual Learners and their talents in STEM.

This year, students explored the exciting world of disc golf with a guest speaker from Down 4 Disc Golf. They learned how to play the sport, investigated the science and mechanics behind throwing discs using Tech Discs, and put their engineering skills to the test by working together to design and build their own putt-putt holes.

Throughout the event, students demonstrated teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and communication while making real-world connections to STEM. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our Multilingual Learners and showcase how STEM brings students together through hands-on learning!

Meet Our School Counselors!

Irvin Families,

During Bully Prevention Month, our K–5 school counselors will be working with students in their classrooms to build awareness around kindness, respect, and safe relationships with peers.
Students will learn the difference between mean behavior, conflict, and bullying, including that under North Carolina law, bullying/harassing behavior involves a pattern of behavior that causes fear of harm or creates a hostile environment that substantially interferes with a student’s educational experience.

We will also practice ways students can respond appropriately, seek help, include others, and be an upstander when they see someone being treated unfairly.

We will have a bully prevention spirit week coming the week of October 19th so be on the lookout for a flyer coming soon!

As always, please use this link to fill out if you would like us to see your student for any support!

Thank you!
Mrs. Carey and Ms. Delgado

🌟 Positivity Project: Bravery🌟

Dear Families,

This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Bravery. Bravery means you act with mental, moral, or physical strength, even when you know things are difficult or scary.
Bravery refers to voluntary (not coerced) action in the face of a dangerous circumstance. This strength involves judgment; the brave person must have an understanding of the risks and consequences involved in acting. According to Socrates and Plato, forethought separates acts of valor from acts of rashness. This means that bravery isn’t simply fearlessness but instead the overcoming of fear.

Overcoming fears is critically important in individual development, as it allows the person to do more and become more. A person can be brave every single day. For example, some people with social anxiety are brave just by leaving their houses and talking with people. On a physical level, bravery allows us to overcome fears, such as swimming or playing a sport. And, on a moral level, doing what we know to be right, despite the risks, gives us the sense that we are acting on behalf of a larger purpose.

To practice and encourage the character strength of bravery at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.

Thank you for your support!
